International organization for standardization, has given certain codes according to names of countries. For setting codes sometimes geographical arena of country is also taken care of. ISO country code is of various types, some are two letter country codes, and some are three letter codes. Codes are also divided on basis of these are numeric or alpha. ISO country code was for first time published in 1974. Later in 1981 codes with numeric values were published under ISO 3166. Since then codes have been further subdivide in to three parts to include names of former countries names, and other geographical divisions of country.
ISO country code is used by countries for imports, exports by country to another. Products and services are exchanged according to ISO codes of country. Codes are required by officials and countrymen. It holds country's signature in two or three letters. Today almost 246 countries small or big are having country codes. To acquire a country code, country or geographical area must be member of United Nations, and International Court of Justice. Disputes have arisen in history over names and codes of certain countries. Like name of Taiwan is under dispute. Codes are signature of a particular country. Sometimes this signature is based on native name of country not on its official name. Like Germany is official name and Deutschland is name given by its natives. As language is called deutsche inhabitants call themselves as Deutschland. Its ISO code is DE signifying Deutschland. United Kingdom of Great Britain is signified by GB. Extension names of certain countries are dropped while naming its ISO codes. Like extensions of republic, united, federal and kingdom have been drooped of some or other country.
